Songs can mean many things to people. Each song is heard differently by each individual person and I think every person can be represented by a song. I personally chose five songs that I believe represent me best. These songs consist of "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" by Cher, "Say" by John Mayer, "Work Hard, Play Harder" by Gretchen Wilson, "This One's for the Girls" by Martina McBride, and "Cheers" by Rihanna. Throughout my life, I have been bullied and pushed away by girls. There are countless times that girls would not want to hang out with me because of somebody else. I think that the song by Cher shows meaning to my life because I never will back down completey. Although I have been rejected and ignored by my peers, I refuse to let them get the best of me. Cher talks deeply about hitting rock bottom in this song and I believe that I once have hit rock bottom and from there, I could only go up.
As I got older, I needed to learn to speak up for how I felt. In John Mayer's song "Say" he talks about always saying how you truly feel and never walk away. I soon realized that speaking up for how you feel really brings a sense of confidence and stabilization. It is the worst feeling to walk awy from a situation and regret not saying how you really feel. When I feel rejected or even confused, speaking up really helps to get my point across or give me a better understanding of a situation. Bullies can make people feel alone and helpless but when you're able to just speak up on how you really feel then they won't know how to take it.
Working is hard. Jobs can be rewarding yet tactful. I always want to be able to supply myself with whatever I want or need. To get that capability, I must work in order to have money. In Gretchen Wilson's song "Work Hard, Play Harder," she talks about how she has such a busy week with working different things on each day and how the weekends are when she splurges and has fun. This is how my summer went. I worked two jobs and then on the weekends, I would visit friends or go on trips to places that I have not been before. I wanted to be sure that I got the most out of my free time so I worked as many hours as I could during the week just to look forward to those two free nights. Weekends are exciting and should be spent relaxing and not worrying about work!!
As I said before, I never had a big group of friends when I was younger. Yet I never gave into peer pressure or did what everyone else was doing. I was okay with standing out and doing my own thing. Martina McBride tells of how girls should hold on to their innosence at a young age and then as we get older, new and exciting things will happen. I see my life as a struggle but not one that I will walk away from. I look forward to living in an apartment on my own when I get older and having to work to get where I want to be. I will someday be supporting a family and I want to know that I can do anything on my own and not have to rely on somebody else to do things for me.
Weekends are so exciting in college. We get two whole days off of class and we have the freedom to make our own decisions and relax. Stressful school-work is a pain so I look to the weekends for enjoyment just like Rihanna sings in her song "Cheers". I know how to make smart decisions and stay away from things that will get me into trouble. My friends are all around me and the weekends are when we can just go out and have a good time making memories. College is going to help prepare me for the rest of my life and I want to get the most out of it any way that I possibly can. After college comes a lot more responsibility and I want to enjoy being a young adult as long as I can!
